The 25-year-old Vilakazi won big during the PSL end of season awards function in May, taking home three major awards on the night, but had little impact in Bafana colours, especially during the 2014 Chan tournament earlier this year.

Jul 25, 2014 18:54:00 The Students' captain finished in the top three of the PSL last season, and the former striker tells Goal that he deserves a spot in this year's Goal 50Former Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs striker Shaun Bartlett believes the only South African player that deserves to be in this year's Goal 50 is Bidvest Wits captain Sibusiso Vilakazi.Goal 50 is a list of the fifty best players around the world for the 2013/14 season, and Bartlett is not convinced that other SA players did enough to be recognised. "It's a difficult one now isn't it?" Bartlett told Goal. "But I think Sibusiso Vilakazi was the best player (in South Africa) last season without a doubt," he added. The former Charlton Athletic marksman added that Teko Modise, who many feel did well to help Mamelodi Sundowns win the League title last season, only produced in the back end of last term."Teko only showed up in the last three or two months of the season," he continued. He was never consistent at all and that definitely counts against him."If you look at Vilakazi then you would see that he was there from the start until the end, and I wasn't surprised he was named the best player in the league."The 41-year-old Bartlett, who is currently coaching NFD side Golden Arrows, revealed that a lack of international experience will always be disadvantageous to PSL-based players."Absolutely! I think our players need more exposure at international level to stand a better chance of being among the best in the world. "Currently our national team is not doing well and with a situation like this, it's very hard to find two or three outstanding players in the country," Bartlett continued.Itumeleng Khune is the only SA player to have ever made the list, coming in at number 45 in 2012/13, and Bartlett believes Vilakazi should emulate Khune and make it onto this year's list."I certainly think he is among the top 30 players in the world. So, yeah I strongly believe that he would make it in the top 30," concluded Bartlett.
