Ranocchia: I turned down Juventus

The defender has rejected the chance to join the Bianconeri as he prepares to sign a new contract at San Siro

Andrea Ranocchia has revealed he turned down a move to Juventus after talking of his desire to dethrone the Serie A champions with Inter.

The Bianconeri had highlighted the 26-year-old as one of their major transfer targets this summer, only to be knocked back by the centre-back earlier this summer.

The defender has been handed the captain's armband at San Siro on the back of an impressive season and the retirement of Javier Zanetti, and will reportedly sign a contract extension in the coming days.

"I said no because I want to beat Juventus with Inter," Ranocchia told RAI. "A trophy here is worth a thousand trophies anywhere else."

Ranocchia made 24 appearances in Serie A last season as Inter finished fifth in coach Walter Mazzarri's first campaign in charge.

The Italy international was included in the Azzurri's provisional 30-man World Cup squad but wasn't selected for the final 23-man selection.
