Triathlete Helen Jenkins has withdrawn from the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow because of a foot injury.Two-time world champion Jenkins, 30, pulled out of the latest leg of the ITU World Series in Hamburg on Sunday during the run.
"I'm obviously devastated," said Jenkins, one of Wales' medal hopes.
"I was very proud to be selected to represent Wales and was looking forward to racing on a tough, honest triathlon course in Strathclyde."
Team Wales have already lost Non Stanford, the 2013 ITU world champion, due to a stress fracture in her left ankle.
Date of birth: 07 March, 1984 ITU world titles: 2008 & 2011 Other major results: 2012 London Olympics, 5th; 2011 Team Triathlon World Champion, Lausanne, Switzerland; 2011 ITU World Championship Series London winner The triathlon, which takes place on the opening day of the Commonwealth Games on 24 July, had been an event in which Wales had strong medal claims. But with both Stanford and now Jenkins being sidelined through injury, Wales' podium hopes have plummeted.
"I will get more information from the specialist this week but with a grade two tear of my Plantar Fascia, it's almost certain that I won't be racing again this season," Jenkins added.
"I particularly want to thank my support team who have worked so hard to get me back racing after such a difficult 18 months after the Olympics."
No replacement for Jenkins has yet been named by Team Wales.
Team Wales Chef du Mission Brian Davies said: "It's undoubtedly a huge blow to the team and she'll be sorely missed, but first and foremost our thoughts are with Helen.
"We wish her a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing her in action again in the near future."
Carol Bridge, a 29-year-old accident and emergency nurse, replaced Stanford when she withdrew, while 23-year-old Holly Lawrence was preferred to double Ironman world champion Leanda Cave in the original squad.
